One Angel Court

This project involves the renovation of a 25-storey tower, built in 1970s within the Bank of England Conservation Area. The complex has substantially improved the neighborhood and created 60% more office space. With this project, Fletcher Priest highlighted the contrast between the solid stone, physically and symbolically reflecting the Bank of England, and the ethereal, translucent tower.

The envelope of the tower flows as a softly curved continuous surface across its entire volume. During the day, it is completely transparent and reflects the sky along its entire body. At night, interior lighting takes over and its skin, apparently uniform, becomes more “earthbound”: the glass panels turn transparent while those covering the gridded frame remain opaque. This effect comes from a double-frit, which offers great views from the inside out in any light conditions.

This is one of the first commercial building in the City to guarantee a BREEAM® “Excellent” Design Stage Assessment.
The final result was obtained by using the following systems: unitised structural glazing, toggle system with steel mullions, glass brise-soleil and micro-perforated metal sheets. The surface finish of metal parts made by Decoral® Group consists of “Alluminio brillante” RAL 9006 matt Class 1 powder coating.
